After a long month of ear infections turning into ruptured ear drums we finally might see an end to the regular visits to the pediatrician and the pharmacy.
Mackenzie had a ruptured ear drum back in October and then got the flu and got another ear infection in November. Dr. B said it was time to remove the adenoids and put another set of tubes in. So we schedule that day surgery for Dec. 8th. Then Ryan got the flu and an ear infection which also turned into a ruptured ear drum. Then a week later still had an ear infection and running a fever. So onto another antibiotic and scheduled a visit with Dr. B just to check the situation out. That appointment turned out to be on Dec. 7th. So I took him in and he had a fever all day that day and Dr. B said that both ears were infected and we should do the tubes in him.
I was kind of joking that we fit his surgery in with Mackenzie's and Dr. B said that would be no problem. About 5 minutes later Ryan was also scheduled for surgery and we were ready to go.
Tuesday morning got both the kids up early and got them to Northwest surgery center inside Seton NW. We waited about 15 minutes before being called back to change kiddos into gowns. Mackenzie got changed and hopped in the bed and was ready to go. Ryan did not want to put on the gown, didn't want his pants off, didn't want his shoes off, cried because he was thirsty, cried because he was cold, and you get the idea. So it took quite some time to get him to atleast take his shoes and pants off. The nurse said we could just leave him in his shirt, underwear and socks. This was okay for about 15 minutes until he decided he did not want to see Dr. B or play games on my iphone anymore....all he wanted to do was go home.
The time passed really slow from 7:15 to 9am when they came to get Ryan. He wasn't happy about being snatched from my lap but he did have his stuffed monkey and off he went.
Dr. B came out and said Ryan's surgery went great and then Mackenzie went back and we were off to the waiting room. They called us back to recovery and we saw Ryan sitting up in his bed eating a green popsicle and looking just adorable. He was happy to get a drink of apple juice and then the popsicle. It was another 20 minutes or so till Mackenzie came out and was waking up. She was in some pain, groggy and ready to go home. We were finally allowed to leave and had to carry each of them out to the car. I got the kiddos some vanilla milkshakes and Mackenzie slept for about 3 hours once we got home.
Other than a bit of a sore throat Mackenzie is doing great. Ryan is still congested but the ears aren't bothering him. I've heard that the adenoid removal really makes a huge difference and I'm keeping my fingers crossed we will see that difference with allergies, cold and flu season upon us.
**update: We thought Sean had strep on Saturday but the first test was negative. I'm hoping he'll stay well enough for his party tomorrow.
